Michoacán Attorney General Carlos Torres Piña announced the arrest of a woman identified as Wendy N., also known as “La Wendy” or “La Tía,” in connection with the murder of Carlos Manzo, the mayor of Uruapan, who was killed on November 1, 2025.
Torres Piña said the arrest took place on May 2 as part of the ongoing operations aimed at solving the murder of former mayor Carlos Manzo.
“La Wendy” was part of the Threema group in which the criminal cell led by Gerardo N., alias “El Congo,” coordinated the actions related to the killing of the former Uruapan mayor.

Where does the investigation into Carlos Manzo’s murder stand?
Last May 16, former governor Leonel Godoy was summoned to testify in the Carlos Manzo case, although he is not listed as a suspect in the investigation into the mayor’s murder.
However, Michoacán prosecutors called him in as a witness in the case.
After leaving the hearing, Godoy said he attended “because I have nothing to hide, and regarding my testimony as a witness, I could not contribute anything since I was not present when those unfortunate events took place. Witnesses must either have directly seen the events or have firsthand knowledge of them, and I had no knowledge whatsoever of any of the facts related to the reprehensible murder of Carlos Manzo. Therefore, I do not believe I can contribute anything to the investigation as a witness, but I appeared because it is my civic duty.”
Godoy Rangel noted that the last time he saw Manzo was in April of last year, when they had a conversation in which he asked that their political dispute remain within civilized terms.
However, he also urged Grecia Quiroz and Juan Manzo — the widow and brother of the slain politician — to “stop engaging in electoral politicking. Vulture politics serves neither democracy in Mexico, nor in Michoacán, nor in Uruapan. I believe they are doing this as an electoral calculation. It benefits them politically to portray themselves as victims, when those arrested have been people from their own group (the Hat Movement).”
