A judge ordered pretrial detention for Roxana N., the mother of Vicente, on charges of homicide with possible intent in connection with the death of the child, who died after being locked inside a car for 12 hours during the heat wave affecting Mexicali on May 2.

Earlier, the Baja California State Attorney General’s Office announced that Vicente’s mother would be prosecuted for homicide with possible intent, arguing that by consuming alcohol, she knowingly assumed the risk of causing harm.

The prosecutor stated that authorities are seeking a 15-year prison sentence for the person responsible for the boy’s death. Vicente died from heatstroke after remaining inside the vehicle for 12 hours without ventilation.

The woman has remained in custody since notifying authorities about her son’s death.

The death of Vicente, a three-year-old boy, has sparked deep outrage in Mexicali after it was confirmed that he lost his life after spending several hours inside a car parked outside his home.

According to preliminary reports, on May 2 at around 1:40 p.m., relatives noticed the child inside the vehicle without vital signs. Despite the quick arrival of emergency responders, nothing could be done to save his life.

Following the child’s death, the victim’s father revealed that Roxana had sent him messages during an ongoing custody dispute over the boy. “I’m going to get back at you, and you will be responsible.” “Your son is going to suffer the consequences,” the messages allegedly said.

However, Roxana had twice reported the child’s father for domestic violence. So far, there is no information confirming that Vicente suffered physical or psychological abuse, although his body did show burns caused by the extreme heat he endured during the 12 hours inside the vehicle.

Vicente Died During Mexicali Heat Wave

Initial investigations indicate that the child may have remained inside the car for between eight and 14 hours. The prolonged confinement, combined with the region’s extreme temperatures, is believed to have caused the fatal heatstroke.

The vehicle was parked on Capellanía Street in the gated Navarra section of the La Rioja neighborhood, a residential area of the city. The case has caused widespread shock and renewed concerns over the extreme dangers of leaving children inside vehicles, especially in climates as hot as Mexicali’s.

Authorities continue investigating to clarify the exact circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

Following Vicente’s case, another similar incident came to light on Tuesday, May 5, though it did not end in death. In this new case, a child approximately three years old was rescued by authorities after being left inside a locked car under the sun in the city of Morelia, Michoacán. Initial reports indicate that his mother had left him there while trying to obtain tickets for a concert by Marco Antonio Solís.

According to security reports, the child was found inside a vehicle parked on Leandro Valle Street, behind Morelos Stadium, when passersby noticed the boy sweating and crying and immediately called for help.
