Thanks to the surveillance carried out on one of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes’ lovers, “El Mencho,” the Army located him on the morning of Sunday, February 22, 2026, two days before he was killed.
“On February 20, a trusted associate of one of ‘El Mencho’s’ romantic lovers was identified. He transported her to a property in the town of Tapalpa, Jalisco.
“At that location, she met with ‘El Mencho,’ and on February 21 she left the property. Information was then obtained indicating that ‘El Mencho’ remained there with a security circle,” Defense Secretary Ricardo Trevilla Trejo reported this morning.

Who Was the Partner of the CJNG Leader?
According to reports from the Defense Ministry itself, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes’ most recent romantic partner is Guadalupe Moreno Carrillo, following his separation from Rosalinda González Valencia in 2022.
Military intelligence had photographs of her and maintained close surveillance of properties where she lived in Zapopan and Puerto Vallarta.
However, Defense Secretary Ricardo Trevilla Trejo did not reveal her name during the press conference, though he suggested that the woman is not under arrest.
Military reports indicate that she was the woman the Army had been tracking and who met with “El Mencho” two days before he died from wounds sustained during a clash with soldiers.
Little is known about Guadalupe Moreno Carrillo. Only that she had been with “El Mencho” for around three years. His health was reportedly fragile, as he suffered from kidney failure and required dialysis treatment.
It is known that “El Mencho” did not have children with Moreno Carrillo and that she maintained a low profile.
The Days Leading Up to the Capture
The woman moved within the upper circles of Guadalajara society, though presenting herself as a businesswoman whose direct ties to criminal activities have not been confirmed.
On February 21, the woman and her driver were intercepted by military personnel, all to confirm that “El Mencho” was still in one of the cabins they had in the Tapalpa forest.
An Army drone flew over the area and recorded the activity of the kingpin’s bodyguards, confirming exactly where he was sleeping.
On the morning of February 22, 2026, the Army broke through the CJNG’s security rings and cornered “El Mencho” in the wooded area, where a shootout broke out.
There, the leader of the CJNG and two of his bodyguards were wounded; all three died while being airlifted by helicopter to a hospital.
Regarding Guadalupe Moreno Carrillo, it was confirmed that she is not under arrest and that no arrest warrant has been issued against her.
The Doubts
So far, the Mexican government has not released images or anthropometric data regarding the identity of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes.
No forensic or morphological analyses were shown, nor were fingerprint records and their comparison with the body now in the custody of the Attorney General’s Office.
A similar situation occurred in 1997 with the body of Vicente Carrillo Fuentes, “El Señor de los Cielos,” who allegedly died following a surgical procedure on July 5 of that year.
Although a video was leaked showing a lifeless man on an operating table, days later the doctors who participated in the procedure were found dead in cement-filled barrels.
The case file of the alleged death of the “Lord of the Skies” also disappeared from government records.
Something similar happened with Nazario Moreno, “El Chayo,” leader of La Familia Michoacana, when the government announced he had been killed on December 9, 2010, in Apatzingán, Michoacán.
However, no further evidence was presented, and on March 9, 2014, his death was announced again after another confrontation in Michoacán.
Finally, on October 7, 2012, authorities reported the alleged killing in Coahuila of Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano, head of Los Zetas.
His supposed body was stolen from a funeral home while it was being prepared for viewing, fueling speculation over whether it was truly him.
The government was never able to conduct tests to confirm his identity, and over time speculation emerged about whether Lazcano was still alive.
Now, authorities have officially reported the killing of “El Mencho” in Tapalpa, although no evidence has been presented. No videos or photographs have been released showing how the operation to kill the kingpin unfolded.
