The man lying on the morgue table has short, black hair. He has no tattoos, but he does have a carefully groomed goatee, recently dyed.

His mouth is open, revealing whitened teeth, perfectly aligned. Not long ago, he underwent a facelift, and he appears at least ten years younger than his 59 years at the time of death.

He is Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho” killed by the Mexican Army on February 22, 2026, at a country club in Tapalpa, Jalisco.

The government chose not to release images of the body, but this reporter reviewed photographs that match known images of the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, the most powerful and violent organization of the past decade.

“El Mencho” had beard implants, which he maintained carefully and dyed using products such as Just For Men and specialized balms.

In the images, his eyes remain wide open, as does his mouth.

It is the expression of sudden death, fixed on his face like a mask.

This reporter had previously questioned authorities for not releasing images of Oseguera Cervantes’ body, given past cases of staged deaths, such as that of Nazario Moreno, “El Chayo,” founder of La Familia Michoacana, or doubts surrounding the alleged theft of the body of Heriberto Lazcano, leader of Los Zetas.

However, the body observed closely resembles that of “El Mencho” based on previously known images.

In recent years, the drug lord made efforts to improve his appearance and look younger.

Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGR) confirmed his identity through genetic data obtained from his son, Rubén Oseguera González, arrested in 2014.

A forensic expert also conducted a physiognomic analysis based on nine elements:

  • Distance between the eyes
  • Height of the frontal region
  • Naso-labial distance
  • Ear size
  • Eye type
  • Nose width
  • Chin height
  • Eye socket size
  • Nasal region

All elements were compared through software with the most widely recognized photograph of “El Mencho” accepted as authentic by the DEA and the U.S. Department of Justice.

The report was signed by an FGR expert whose name remains withheld for security reasons.

Authorities avoided releasing the image publicly to prevent provoking the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which believed “El Mencho” had protection.

Such exposure could be interpreted as a personal betrayal.

Nevertheless, the FGR’s findings were shared with Donald Trump’s team through the U.S. Embassy and a liaison with the White House.

This reporter reviewed more than 25 images of the body. Although forensic procedures had already taken place, coagulated blood remained visible in the mouth.

The leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel was killed by the Mexican Army, and for both Mexico and the United States, there is no doubt about it.

El Mencho’s party lasted until his death

Everything began on February 13.

Armored vehicles and luxury cars arrived at the Tapalpa Country Club.

It was the entourage of Nemesio Oseguera, who attended by invitation of the CJNG leader himself.

A special unit composed of the Navy and Army monitored Guadalupe Moreno Carrillo, Oseguera’s partner since 2022.

By February 14, she and his daughters spent time with the cartel leader. According to the FGR investigation, the atmosphere remained calm and family-oriented.

However, Guadalupe and the minors left the site without interference from authorities, as no warrant existed against her or the individual acting as her driver.

Hours later, the gathering intensified, and Oseguera’s associates served food, beer, and wine.

His operators arrived and departed in staggered intervals

Individuals linked to “Los Cuinis” and the Valencia group reportedly attended but left before the military operation took place.

On February 20, a young blonde woman arrived at the Tapalpa Country Club. She was a special guest of “El Mencho”.

The vehicle she used carried a tracking device from Guadalajara, which helped confirm her arrival at the same location where Oseguera’s presence had already been established.

The woman stayed in one of the cabins and left the following morning.

During these events, a drone flew over the country club area. Equipped with a thermal system, it detected a significant number of individuals gathering with “El Mencho” across four cabins.

Another system identified a large number of mobile devices connecting to the internet via Wi-Fi.

Although no clear image of “El Mencho” was obtained at the time, the presence of armed individuals had already been confirmed.

The blonde woman had previously been identified as an occasional companion, with sightings alongside Oseguera in Tapalpa, Puerto Vallarta, and Manzanillo at least three times in 2025.

In the early hours of Sunday, February 22, the operation and ensuing clashes took place.

At the foothills surrounding the cabins, the most feared cartel leader of recent years was killed by the Mexican Army.

Sources requested that this reporter not cite the official FGR case file or disclose the names of several individuals present at the gathering.

According to authorities, operations against them will follow.

The objective is to dismantle the CJNG, fragment its structure, and reduce its capacity. Eliminating it entirely remains unlikely in the short term.
